Let’s face it. Visiting a church can sometimes be intimidating especially, if your
new to the neighborhood or if you haven’t had much experience with church in the
past. In fact, you’re probably browsing this sight right now because you’re hoping
to get an idea of what Hulen Street Church is like before you show up on Sunday
morning. If that’s the case here are a few questions you may be asking:
What kind of people will I find at Hulen Street?
Hulen Street sits right in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in Fort
Worth. We are surrounded by neighborhoods of young families and because of that
the average age of someone at Hulen Street is 40 years old. But one thing you’ll
notice when you visit is that we don’t all look the same. There is a healthy collection
of people of different races, ages, and life stages at Hulen Street. At Hulen Street
you’ll find that you can have unity without uniformity.
How does everyone dress?
Everyone is encouraged to attend worship in whatever attire they feel most comfortable.
For a few that will mean slacks and a tie, for most it means jeans and a polo, and
for some it means shorts and a t-shirt. You will typically find our Lead Pastor,
Wes Hamilton, preaching in jeans and a button-down. For the most part we are more
"Old Navy" than we are "Old School", but you'll feel right at home no matter what
you wear.
What is the music like?
We live in a world where a line has been drawn between contemporary and traditional
worship and you belong to either one camp or another. While the majority of our
worship would be classified as contemporary (Passion, Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, David
Crowder, Charlie Hall, Steve Fee, Kristian Stanfill etc.) we still love the theological
depth and poetic beauty contained in the classic hymns most of us grew up with.
So from time to time we’ll pull one of those classics out and sing it with a modern
twist.
Will the preaching put me to sleep?
That all depends on when you went to bed the night before. But if you listen to
one of Wes’s messages on iTunes before you visit you’ll see that his teaching is
always Biblical, consistently applicable, and occasionally humorous.
Are you affiliated with a denomination?
Although we don’t consider ourselves to be your typical Baptist church we do cooperate
with the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention and are dually aligned with
both the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptists of Texas
Convention.
What Sunday morning activities do you have for children?
Hulen Street has a dynamic ministry to kids that we call Kid’s Street. During our
Growth Group hour (9:30am - 10:30am) we have classes for kids that seek to teach them
the fundamentals of faith in a way that they can not only understand, but they can
enjoy.
During the worship hour (11:00am - Noon) children from birth to kindergarten take
part in ETC (Extended Training and Care) and kids in 1st grade and higher get the
chance to worship alongside their parents in the worship center. However, we do
provide a kid friendly worship guide with activities to help them focus during the
message.
